My Chosen Portion (Jesus)
#GCG Blog 05 (Reflection) - Written by: H.C. Daniels
Good morning beauties! Being in a place of transition in God can be such an exciting time and have many appointed times where you see Godʼs mighty hand at work in your life (called in the Bible, Kairos moments). Usually these can also be times where God might not unfold all of the revelation (by the Spirit) at once regarding the instructions given (by Jesus) from the Word. This is collectively called the logos-rhema word. Being in transition from the old to the new is a time for preparation and processing. It is also a time for further context necessary to move you into alignment with the will of God for your life as you seek Him and inquire of Him more. God also could be moving other pieces of the puzzle that might be linked to divine connections and opportunities for His glory, our good and the good of others. Everything is beautiful in itʼs time and we must continually trust God in His writing of our story.
I am currently petitioning God to part the Red Sea on my behalf in alignment with His will. A lot of times in this type of transition brought on by my surrendering my will and dying to self (this is what faithful covenant with Jesus looks like with regards to our part), these are not uncommon. God wants to show up for His children by inviting them to rely on Him regarding something He can only do and bring to pass in your life so He gets the glory. Asking God about leaving my current job, God put before me Jeremiah 50:5-10. For me this was God saying that some things in my life are linked to choices outside of His will. As He is transitioning someone back into His preferred will, through repentance and restoration, some things we will have to let go in order to embrace what He has for us. This is only part of the instruction and revelation. God when He wants us to rest in Him will usually tell us the what, why, or who but the how and when are up to Him so we donʼt get ahead of Him. So in my case, as for the timing, God will let me know.
In the promised land, God watches over the crop and opens the windows of heaven in due season. In Egypt the Israelites toiled to produce crop (Deuteronomy 11). The wilderness was all about God taking the Egypt out of the Israelites. The promised land is a place where there has to be change to our mindsets, patterns and behaviors in order to experience our dependence on God as He wants us to. Jesus knows who we are, what we need, and our propensity to toil. This is why resting in Him is important when He tells you to do so, because if He doesn’t tell you certain things yet, a lot of times it has to do with timing. Stop toiling and relying on yourself to fill in the gaps! Please know I am preaching to myself right now too. Remember that sitting at His feet and abiding in the Vine (John 15), results in intimacy with the King as well as new identity, new assignments and promises as you continually search for Him with a genuine and poor spirit (needing instruction) and are obedient to His commands. Stop toiling!
People think that following the law or commands of the Lord are linked only to the OT laws given to Moses and expanded on in Numbers and Deuteronomy. These are important to read and study as well since Jesus came to fulfill the law not to abolish it (Matthew 5:17-18). The law gives us insight into the character of God and how important certain things are to him like purity, heart of flesh vs. stone, obedience leading to blessings, inheritances and lots. We also have to remember that law or commands also refers to specific directions for your life. Feasting with King Jesus through reading of the Word, prayer, fasting regularly, and worship builds our relationship with Him (as the prize) and allows us to know His heart for us more. As you partake of Him regularly, this becomes a delight. Delighting ourselves in Him includes getting instruction for our lives, specifically, that we must obey to enjoy our inheritance on this side of heaven (Matthew 6:33) and allows us to continue to look forward to our inheritance in the life to come. This is how we know Jesus more and He knows us. He continually says His family our the ones who do the will of the Father and we have to abide in Him to get instruction from the rest (rest or waiting on the Lord is the default posture in the Kingdom). We have to humble ourselves, and let Jesus drive the car. It is the best ride you will ever have!
When God says to flee “Babylon” we have to ask God for what could be considered Babylon in our own lives as the example I provided above. Just to reiterate and bring it home, this could be anything that has resulted in your life from disobedience and in you becoming lost sheep, roaming the mountains. Lost sheep as described in Jeremiah 50:6-7 have been led astray causing them to roam, forget their resting place. When we do not get instruction and revelation from Jesus and the Holy Spirit, by seeking Him first pertaining to our lives and obeying what He commands us to do to fulfill the will of the Father, we can end up in rebellion out of ignorance. This is happening to a lot of people in the body of Christ due to continuing to rely on others, who are fallible, to tell us what God is saying about our lives. This was a huge stumbling block in my life and in the lives of many in terms of fulfilling the Fatherʼs will for their lives. Jeremiah 50:6 says that the sheep were led astray by their shepherds. We also see countless times in the OT where the sin of the leadership (especially the kings - even David who took an illegal census) led to the people suffering. The text then goes on to say, the shepherds misguiding you leads to you “roaming mountains” and being devoured by those finding you (your enemies) because you are out of alignment with the will of God. This is essentially how you end up being in Babylon which can be Godʼs permissive will in a job, geographical location, or even a marriage. Babylon connections and circumstances are due to not being postured by making Jesus your resting place and getting instruction directly from the source of all Truth concerning your life. But the beautiful message is that Jesus will come to get His own. These are essentially those Kairos (Red Sea) moments where He intervenes in a mighty way to call you back home to Zion and back into His preferred will for your life in every area (Jeremiah 50:5).
Some other verses that highlight the benefits of Jesus as your chosen portion:
More Relevant Verses (ESV):
Psalm 73:26 - My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Psalm 16:5-6 - The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.
Psalm 142:5 - I cry to you, O LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
It is a beautiful place to posture yourself to partake of Jesus as your chosen portion and cup (as the fruit of the tree of life) and desire Him more than anything. This posture is necessary to continue to experience His glorious presence, drawing You to resting in Him (Psalm 16:5-6). Coming out of transition happens spiritually first and we have to learn to walk in faith and not by sight (standing on the promises of God even if you donʼt see the full unfolding of them yet).
Obedience to Jesusʼ instructions brings life (Romans 6:23), results in you receiving your inheritance on this side of heaven, and develops an intimate relationship with the King who is your chosen portion and cup as you sit with Him being refreshed by His presence (Psalm 16:5-6).
